Guru built upon the huge buzz created around
Gangstarr in the early nineties to push forward with his pioneering jazz/hip hop fusion project
Jazzmatazz, with the first volume appearing in 1993. The solo album contained collaborations with
Donald Byrd,
Roy Ayers and N'Dea Davenport, and hailed the beginning of a hugely successful musical brand which was to extend to four volumes.
Guru and producer Solar are joined at La Bellevilloise tonight by the heaviest French Afrofunk outfit on the scene right now, Bibi Tanga & The Selenites, making this a great double-bill event.
