"WHO SAYS I HAVE TO DANCE IN A THEATER – ANNA HALPRIN"
(2006) / 50'
Director: Jacqueline Caux
Anna Halprin is a major figure of twentieth century dance. Since the end of the 40s she broke with all aesthetic form and settled in California where her research first gave birth to a post modernism which led to the creative conception of movement and choreographic composition.
Invited for the first time to France in 2004 at the age of 84 she brought together a group of artists and performers from different generations with whom she produced two emblematic pieces: Parades and Changes (1965), and Intensive care, Reflections on death and dying (2000). In this portrait, which mixes images from the Parisian experience, archives from performances such as Embracing Earth (1995) and Season (2003) all performed outside and in natural environments, Halprin explores her vision of dance and retraces several key moments in a journey full of humanity. The film will be followed by a discussion with the director.
