CONCERT

Live Pop Rock

Written 30 January

Monday 29 December, 00:00
La Flèche d'Or, 75020 [map]
Archimede, Deja Vu, Molly's, Marshmallow

First up: Archimedes, self-declared true pop artists (in that their melodies, harmonies and lyrics are familar and well worn) are on a mission to establish links between the Anglo pop rock traditions of the last forty years and those of French song. The result is danceable, spirit-lifting and annoyingly catchy.

Deja Vu sit comfortably in the same pigeonhole as Babyshambles, Arctic Monkeys, etc. Upbeat brit-style pop rock with some ace hooks - check their last single "Alison Gray" for an example.

Amiens band Molly's make massive, wall-of-sound anthems a la MBV, Ride, Sparklehorse et al. With over 100 tour dates on the pages of their diaries since they formed just two years ago, the band released the EP "Fast / Slow Motion" to much acclaim this year.

Finally, the slightly daft punkpop of Marshmellow is enough to warm the most sceptical of muso's hearts, all silly synths, uber-happy strumming and witty lyrics.
