Well known fiction writer and director,
Alexander Kluge has had a large influence on cinema, television and literature since the 1960s. Assistant to
Fritz Lang he went on to make films which launched the New German Cinema movement and directed a number of important films, which, through the use of montage and experimental forms critique commercial cinema and television, including Yesterday Girl (1966), an adaptation of Kluge's story "Anita G."; Die Artisten in der Zirkuskuppel: ratlos (Artists under the Big Top: Perplexed) (1968); and The Assault of the Present on the Rest of Time (1985).
