Exhibition from American photographer
Bill Owens. Famous for his series “SUBURBIA. The American way of life”; testament to life in the suburbs of middle America, and the social and economic change with which it was confronted. A series was later developed by Owens in “The New Suburbia” in 2006-2007.
The exhibition includes work from the rock concert Altamont in 1969 and America from the 1960s/1970s in collaboration with Claudia Zanfi. Owens, witness of his time, living at the heart of social, cultural and political upheaval in his country, also photographed many demonstrations happening around him. In “RIOTS”, diverse groups are fighting against war in Vietnam, racial, economic and political oppression.
This exhibition offers the opportunity to take a journey through recent American history to discover or rediscover the large upheavals that contemporary society has known and also invites us to reflect on the influence of photography on the collective imagination.
