Often heard accompanying celebrations at temples and shrines, the wadaiko (literally "Japanese drum") is carved from a single piece of wood, giving it rich and varied resonance and delicate tones.

One of the most active wadaiko performers outside Japan, and a frequent collaborator with Oedo Sukeroku Taiko, Mariko Kubota will demonstrate the instrument with her ensemble.
