Werner Herzog's 1979 adaptation of Büchner's play was filmed in just 18 days, and edited in 4. The film is, in typical Herzog fashion, a highly stylized and dispassionate story exploring the edges of sanity and obsession, but for the first time there's also some love interest.

Our protagonist, Woyzeck, volunteers himself for experimentation at a local doctor's surgery, and the resulting experiments push him to the edge of madness.
