The Werner Herzog season continues at the Pompidou Centre, with three films spanning forty years of cinema. "Encounters at the End of the World" (2007) studies people and places in Antarctica. Produced entirely by Herzog and cinematographer Peter Zeitlinger, the film documents aspects of life on the earth's southernmost continent not previously seen on screen. "Signs of Life" (1968) is the story of Stroszek, a second world war soldier, sent to Crete to guard an ammunition depot. Based on Achim von Arnim's "Der Tolle Invalide auf dem Fort Ratonneau", this is Herzog's first major critical success. Finally, "The Flying Doctors of East Africa" (1969) is a conventional documentary which Herzog made at the request of some friends of the doctors themselves. In the directors own words, "I do not even call it a film, it is much more a Bericht, a report."

"Encounters at the End of the World" is showing at 14:30, "Signs of Life" at 17:30 and "The Flying Doctors of East Africa" at 19:30.
