In his work, spanning over fifty years, Rajak Ohanian has devoted himself to eluding the mimetic traps of photography without renouncing nonetheless its expressive dimension whilst conceptualising critically all the elements - the format, framing, organisation of the construction, graduation of shadows and highlights, dilution or precision of detail, the importance given to the emptiness and pure space. There is an asceticism of expression – an anti-expressionism in some respects - as if the expression has something to gain in being cold, intensifying the power of objectification. Rajak Ohanien could imitate the words of Picasso: “I attach no importance to the subject but to the object. Respect the object”
