With over 130 works, of which numerous works have rarely been seen, the exhibition retraces the collection of
Elliott Erwitt for the past sixty years, through a selection of favourite images. A photographer since 1948, member of Magnum since 1953, Erwitt is a talented observer of daily life. Witness to the big events of the 20th century, this master of the moment mixes satire and melancholy with humanitarianism.
Writer and photographer
Philippe Bordas started his African itinerary in 1988, living daily life amongst the Kenyan boxers of Mathare Valley, the biggest shanty town in Africa. In 1994 to 1999 he enters the closed world of Senegalese fighters. At the start of 2001 in Bamako, Bordas discovered the army of West African hunters, and followed their pilgrimages for seven years. The exhibition reassembles these three projects produced in Africa in the period between 1988 to 2008.
The exhibition is based on an artistic project for the Royal theatre in Turin. Like
Alain Fleisher in 2007,
William Klein in 2008 and Gabriele Basilico in 2009, Sarah Moon stepped up to the challenge to create a universe that allows us to see the fantastic, where timeless elements of the stage and backstage evoke the universe of Lewis Carroll, the fairy stories of Andersen and Shakespearian tragedies.
In the series “Effacements” Yousouf Wachill is interested in the aura of faces whilst
Luc Choquer, in a style somewhat similar to the portraits of
August Sander in 1930s Germany, has produced hundreds of portraits that question the representation of a French nation.
