Vienna Vegetable Orchestra / Tune Yards

Vienna Vegetable Orchestra, Tune Yards

A double bill of genuinely unhinged music. Tune Yards' blend of rootsy mandolin, distorted live funk breaks, driving bass and wacked out vocals is as accessible as it is bizarre - check their "Bird Brain" album for an idea of the oddness of New England native Merrill Garbus' project.

Considerably easier to pin down, though no less odd, is the Vienna Vegetable Orchestra: they make music from vegetables. Yep. Hollow them out, blow through them, bang them together, rub them against each other. Simple.
