IRCAM, in conjunction with the 3D sound company
Sonic Emotion, have developed a
Wave Field Synthesis sound system. The technology allows for accurate simulation of the position of sounds as heard by any listener in a given space.
The system's first major outing will be at the next
Festival d'Avignon (in use for a performance of Shakespeare's Richard II), but the Parisian public will be treated to a free test of the system at the 104 today.
