Shai Kremer addresses, through the two series presented in 'Infected Landscape' and 'Fallen Empires', a metaphoric portrait of the transformation of the Israeli landscape since centuries of successive passages of civilisations.
“My photographs show the threatening and omnipresent imprint of the army on Israeli soil, and by mirror effect, this same imprint on Israeli society. The aesthetic of images, their ordered compositions imitate the mechanisms of defence of Israeli citizens trying to aim for a ‘normal’ life. The scars hidden in the landscape correspond to the wounds of the collective unconscious of the country. The country, infected by the accumulation of sediment deposited by an endless conflict, becomes a platform for discussion.” Shai Kremer
