Noise rock duo
Lightning Bolt formed in 1994, Rhode Island, as a bass/drums/guitar/vocals improv act. They toured the US extensively, and eventually mustered enough premeditation to put out and album in 1997, on
Load Records.
Lightning Bolt gigs are notoriously loud, lively and agressive, the crowd usually massed around the duo playing at floor level (rather than on a stage) and the energy levels set to high. On a completely unrelated matter, the duo were deported from Japan in 2006 on grounds of work permits.
Brian Gibson (bass) credits much of the act's success on their sheer volume level: "We used to get more negative reactions when we didn't have as loud of stuff. It's just, be super loud and you're all set. The rock and roll has been revealed. I do feel that that's the message - if there's any message, that's what it is. This is kinda what we do to keep ourselves excited these days. In these days - everyone knows what I'm talking about."
