Akram Khan

With his new opus Gnosis, dancer and choreographer Akram Khan returns to his roots. After detours with Sylvie Guillem in Monstres Sacrés Stage Legends (2007) and Juliette Binoche for In-I (2008), and also the creation of a contemporary piece about exile entitled Bahok (2008), the artist of Bangladeshi origin regains his foothold, as he regularly does, in the tradition of his childhood :the kathak. This dance which is typical in the north west of India is characterized by a biting and paradoxical virtuosity. At the heart of Gnosis, which was created with dancer Gauri Sharma Triparthi, Akram Khan deals with the themes of blindness, darkness and the difficulty in having a clear vision of life, personified by a stream of heroic figures typical of Indian mythology but also of American comics.
