Gogol Bordello, Pretty Lights, Mariachi El Bronx, DJ Dubta

Native Ukrainian Eugene Hutz first took a shine to gypsy music after being evacuated to western Ukraine following the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. After 7 years of living as a refugee throughout Eastern Europe and Italy he moved to New York and hooked up with guitarist Vlad Solofar, accordionist Sasha Kazatchkoff, fiddle player (and former Moscow theatre director) Sergei Riabsev and drummer Eliot Fergusen.

Initially performing as a gypsy music band at Russian weddings and other events, Gogol Bordello quickly progressed towards the high energy gypsy-punk you'll hear tonight, culminating in their Jim Sclavunos (Bad Seeds drummer) produced debut LP Voi-la Intruder (1999). Via numerous lineup and direction changes, the band have toured to progressively larger audiences and Hutz's DJ shows in Mehanatahave become the stuff of legend.
