Jens Wolf

German born Jens Wolf belongs to a new generation of painters who explore geometrical abstraction of the 60’s. Neatly made on poplar plywood, his paintings seem to appropriate the formal language of artists such as Josef Albers, Frank Stella and Kenneth Noland. Wolf’s paintings undermine the notion of purity of form. His work often achieves a strong dynamic by a shortening or distorting. This dynamic, associated with post-pop colours, also recalls that of rock culture.

For his third solo show at the gallery, Jens Wolf has produced a mural painting specially conceived for the gallery space. This new piece reworks patterns and damaged forms from within his paintings.
