There's an old Parisian saying - this town is home to great music every night of the year but one. A little harsh, perhaps - at the very least, the Fête de la Musique is an excuse to draw attention to much of the musical scene of Paris which often goes unnoticed. And you don't *have* to sit in the pub all night listening to Duran Duran songs played by impromptu blues bands. Only if you want to.
Anyway, highlights this year include Batofar's many-DJ electrobass offering (
Para One,
autoKratz,
Make the Girl Dance,
Toxic Avenger...); "Mute fête la musique", a tech-house affair beside the Canal Saint Martin; "L'Orchestre Symphonique du Rail" at Gare Du Nord; Sambinho, a Brazillian percussion session in the Place Jean Pierre Timbaud; Hypnotic live at
Point Ephemere and a mini-festival of African music at Saraaba (19 rue de la Goutte d''Or).
