Valérie Jouve

Since the beginning of the 1990s Valérie Jouve has produced a unique body of work. For this exhibition she presents about thirty photographs produced in 2008 and 2009. Inscribed within a photographic tradition close to that of Walker Evans, Valerie Jouve’s figures fall between documentary and fiction.

The exhibition “en attente” calls to mind the actual pauses and poses that she asks of the men and women photographed in large format in urban decors: their glances and their frozen gestures captured on Palestinian territory, a territory itself in limbo.

“My intention is also to create a territory which goes beyond existence, despite media clichés… I have to constantly keep a distance. The images can do nothing if only to continue to transport utopias that make me feel alive” V.Jouve
