Acknowledged in the 1960s for his Demeures, or strange sculptural dwellings, and the creator of the Manteau, the first sculpture to be made from fabric, Etienne-Martin still remained for a long time a figure on the outskirts of Parisian art. The Centre Pompidou’s homage is presented through a collection of fifteen sculptures, designs, personal notebooks and photographs of his workshop as well as unseen archives belonging to the Musée d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris as well as photographs of his own legendary workshop on rue du Pot-de-Fer.
