A veteran of French contemporary cinema, Yann Dedet, both editor and actor in Francois Truffaut’s La Nuit américaine, editing the majority of the latter’s films as well as those of Maurice Pialat, produces here a poetic and sensitive work on the course of his first trip to Japan with a camera for company. Comparative to the literary style off Zuihitsu, a genre of Japanese literature consisting of loosely connected personal essays and fragmented ideas that typically respond to the author's surroundings, Dedet's film sees him throwing himself into the study of the Japanese language and managing to produce a somewhat fantastical interpretation of the everday on “the other side”.
