Prefuse 73's influence on modern hiphop has roots spreading in all directions - his glitchy, cut-up style has obvious presence in the current aquacrunk/wonky movements, and the work of organisations such as
Lucky Me,
Brainfeeder and the modern incarnation of Fat City would be arguably different without albums like "
One Word Extinguisher".
His last recorded outing - the cut-and-splice epic "Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian", released last year on
Warp - showed Herren moving forward with the style, sidestepping the exaggerated Dilla-isms of his peers and breaching new ground.
