Originally from St Albans, England (also home to Stanley Kubrick, Friendly Fires, Francis Bacon and Graham Young, the "Teacup Poisoner"), The Zombies route to stardom was initially steep. Signed by Decca in 1964, they released their first single "She's Not There" (see video below) peaked at number 12 in the UK charts. However, focus transferred to the States as the single hit number 2 in the billboard charts. Several singles and one album later (all of which tended to enjoy greater success in the USA than the UK), the band signed to CBS, recorded the (unfortunately misspelled) Odessey And Oracle, and promptly split up. The final album was released in 1968. After several partial reformations and projects, 2008 saw the four surviving members of the band (Guitarist Atkinson died in 2004) perform at the Shepherd's Bush Empire to mark the 40th anniversary of their final record.
