Matthew Dear has been producing forward thinking electronic music for over a decade, but he made his first significant mark on the mainstream in 2007 with "Asa Breed". The album showed a knack for twisting pop into new forms - a tendency developed on his new record "Black City". The album is a dark pop gem, all monolithic 80's vocal lines, deep pads and shuddering synth-bass.
