CONCERT

of Montreal / Casiokids

Written 30 January

Saturday 31 January, 19:00
Bataclan, 75011 [map]
of Montreal, Casiokids

Heading into their second decade, of Montreal (actually of Athens, Georgia) blend experimentation with pop sensibility. Bordering on twee but never quite falling foul of it, the bands influences are diverse: earlier releases like 1999's "The Gay Parade" merge pyschedelics with downright music hall bawdiness while later projects such as last years "Skeletal Lamping" shoot off into funk and afrobeat. Their trademark fusion of dark, depressing lyrics with upbeat melodies and arrangements makes them constantly entertaining.

Supporting tonight are Norwegian electro-trash troupe Casio Kids, whose theatrical shows, heavy on the visual elements, have been slowly spreading from their native land for a few years now. Consistently difficult to pin down, their shows feature huge puppets, shadow theatre, multimedia mayhem and of course their unique strain of cartoonish pop.
