Agnes Varda's 1962 Rive Gauche film "Cléo de 5 à 7" shows us, in realtime, the life of French singer Cléo between the hours of 5pm a 7pm. Afraid of getting the result of of a test from her doctor, she believes that she has cancer and will die of the disease. We follow her for two hours while she cruises through the streets of Paris.
The film is noted for its handling of several of the themes of existentialism, including discussions of mortality, the idea of despair, and leading a meaningful life. The film has a strong feminine view point and raises questions about how women are perceived.
Agnès Varda (born 30 May 1928) is a French film director. Her movies, photographs, and art installations focus on documentary realism, feminist issues, and social commentary — with a distinct experimental style.
