CONCERT

Lol Coxhill

Written 30 January

Tuesday 10 February, 20:30
Instants Chavires, 93100 Montre [map]
Lol Coxhill, John Edwards and Steve Noble

Co-founder of turn-of-the-70s project Delivery (along with Steve Miller, Jack Monck, Pip Pyle and Phil Miller) and member of The Whole World (the ensemble created to back Kevin Ayers, also featured David Bedford and Mike Oldfield) Lol Coxhill has a jazz past which reads like the proverbial who's who. His innovative use of tapes and motors with his main instrument (soprano sax) propelled him towards the avant garde, and numerous experimental partnerships grew. It wasn't, however, until the mid eigthies until this demure maverick of improvised music came into his own: collaborations with The Damned, Steve Beresford, The Steve Miller Trio, Evan Parker and Steve Lacy have flowered since then, and his solo work continues to cut new channels into improv.

Appearing with Coxhill tonight will be acclaimed UK double bassist John Edwards, who has made his name on the London improv scene alongside luminaries such as Roger Turner, Lol Coxhill, Maggie Nicols and Phil Minton; and ex-Rip Rig and Panic man Steve Noble, who has also been involved numerous instances in Derek Bailey's Company.
