The group
Berlin started their project Holocene (current geological period), a series of city portraits in 2003. Bonanza is the third in the series of four cities and towns: Jerusalem, Iqaluit, Bonanza and Moscow. In their artistic work they focus on a research topic, which they carry out in co-operation with various artists and using academic approaches, interdisciplinary means and within several different media.
Bonanza is a filmed portrait of a Colorado mining-town whose population has gone from 12,000 to 7 inhabitants in a century. This latest work from the Antwerp-based collective, Berlin, is somewhere between a documentary and an installation. Bonanza explores a miniature world which hides its share of twisted plots, rumours and jealousy underneath its bucolic façade.
