Manipulator of narrative distortion, Alain Declercq, photographer, film-maker, and artist, born in 1969, is a critical artist of the modern world. At the heart of his preoccupation is a manipulation of objects to create the seed of doubt in our psyche whilst exploring the hierarchy of power, forms of oppression, contemporary security and media manipulation in society. One famous image being that of Declercq shooting at an American B52 plane heading for Irak. Declercq sows the seeds of doubt in his manipulation and juxtaposition of images and objects. His docu-fiction “Mike” resulted in an interrogation by the anti-terrorist squad in 2005, sending him brutally into a breathtaking reality where the boundaries of fact and fiction start to become frighteningly blurred… By passing himself off as a forger of our current politics, Alain Declercq has a disturbing influence on our psyches and makes us feel just a little paranoid.
