Thursday 19 February, 20:00Batofar, 75013 [map]Plaid, Hudson Mohawke, Tim Exile
Launch of Batofar's new Bleep! party, which, if this lineup is anything to go by, is set to blaze trails. Headliners
Plaid have been stirring up the electronic music world for over a decade, producing their inimitable blend of twisted electro-hop for
Warp, Clear and Black Dog Productions as well as working with high profile artists such as Nicolette, Björk and Bat For Lashes. Heavily involved in visual as well as audio work (tonight's performance will be an AV one), their recent soundtrack to Michael Aria's film "
Heaven's Door" was released on Beatink in Japan, and will hopefully be available on Warp in the near future.
Perhaps the most exciting feature of tonight's lineup, however, is new boy and current critics favourite
Hudson Mohawke. This Glasgow born bedroom producer sprung to fame at the end of 2008 as Warp's newest signing, and his chopped, lurching tech-hop has become (alongside pioneers like Flying Lotus, Dorian Concept, Lukid, Debruit and, of course, Dilla) staple material in every wonky DJ's bag.
Completing the lineup this evening is glitchy improv wizard
Tim Exile, whose stunningly titled 2008 debut "Tim Exile’s Nuisance Gabbaret Lounge" is the product of an inquisitive mind, to say the least. His tweaked, restless music owes more to live avant-garde jazz practices than solitary bedroom production, but the sound is pure tech - all cut up electro breaks and off-the-hook wildfire melodic lines.
