CONCERT

Nitin Sawhney

Written 30 January

Friday 20 February, 19:00
Alhambra, 75010 [map]

London based MOBO award winning composer and pioneer of the Asian Underground scene in the UK Nitin Sawhney is a political creature, from his beginnings as a radio writer and performer tackling outdated Asian stereotypes to his rejection of the World Music classification as "musical apartheid". His sound is complex, rooted in Indian traditions, Qawwali singing, Raga phrasings, Urdu and Hindi lyrics and tabla, but filtered through modern technology and production techniques. His latest album, "London Undersound", is an insightful study of how London has changed since the bombings in 2005.
