CONCERT
Wednesday 04 March, 20:00Point Ephémère, 75010 [map]Barth, soy un caballo and Arch Woodmann
An evening of slightly unhinged pop and folk. First up,
Barth makes a sort of surreal pop music, a humourous but touching blend of reduced and succinct melodies, dub vibed cosmo-indie, folkish simplicity and music hall theatricals. If such a thing can be said to exist.
Up and coming (we reckon) post-rock/new folk/shoegazer
Arch Woodmann is a strange creature - imagine Kevin Drew fused with Sun Ra (don't picture it, just image the sound) or Iron and Wine on some sort of fungal super-steroids. Either way, the mix of wall-of-sound washes and intimate new-folk noodles, "Sea Change" era Beck style acoustic anthems and classical structures ensures a spellbinding, musically diverse but coherent experience. We also like the fact that the only way to buy his music is to send a cheque to his house. Ace.
Finally, Belgian duo
Soy Un Caballo bring their stripped down, bossa'd up folk. All Fender and Wurly pianos, vibraphones, acoustic guitar and dreamy, atmospheric vocals, this band's list of collaborators features such luminaries as Will Oldham, Kate Stables, Sean O'Hagan and Charlie Francis.
