Since its creation 30 years ago, Cinéma du Réel has become the festival of reference for documentary cinema in France. Its diversity attracts a large following. Around 20 short and longer films from all over the world, conferences and discussions with invited filmmakers all contribute to a varied programme. To start things rolling today’s programme includes…
Mirages (Olivier Dury)
Each day, a thousand leagues from here, dozens of men set out with the extraordinary hope of reaching Europe. During the first days of their journey between Niger and Algeria, the emigrants are faced with the rhythm of the desert, its sudden transformations, and its immobility.
Job en de hollandse vrijstaat Job and the Dutch Freestate (Rosemarie Blank)
" In 1988, I met a quietly eccentric man who lived in Condradstreet in Amsterdam. More than 100 squatters lived there, mostly artists. Job wa,s in my eye,s the most authentic of them all. After Conradstreet was cleared by the police, the squatters left. Only Job stayed behind." (R. B.)
Rachel (Simone Bitton)
The life and death of Rachel Corrie, a young American pacifist who was fatally crushed by an Israeli bulldozer in the Gaza Strip in March 2003 while she was trying to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian house.
