Chance to hear two of the "hours" of
Stockhausen's unfinished Klang cycle. Widely regarded as representative of the ideas and goals which Stockhausen chased throughout his career, the cycle is devoted to the 24 hours of the day, though at the time of his death only 21 were completed.
Marco Blaauw (trumpet) will tackle Harmonien, the 5th hour of the piece; and members of
MusikFabrik will perform Hoffnung ("Hope"), the 9th hour. Fans of Stockhausen not familiar with this later work can expect a refinement of the methods and practices they know and love, whereas novices can jump right in at the deep end - Klang (meaning "Sound") is challenging, enlightening and beautiful.
Olga Neuwirth's Hooloomooloo and Lost Highway Suite are adventures in hybrid sound - whether blending live musicianship with recorded sounds in concrete style, or with ondes-martinot, the decay, juxtaposition and abstraction of sound sources places these pieces comfortably in the program.
