CONCERT

Le Trio Jourban

Written 30 January

Saturday 07 March, 20:30
Institut du Monde Arabe, 75005 [map]

Samir Joubran was born in 1973 in Nazareth, in Galilee. He learnt the oud from his father at the age of 5 before studying at the prestigious conservatory of Cairo. His first album Taqaseem (1996) followed by Sou’fahm (2001) led to travel throughout the Middle East and Europe. Collaborations with poets like Mahmoud darwish highlight the virtuosity of his music.
Wissam Joubran, also born in Nazareth in 1983, learnt violin before following in his brother’s footsteps and taking up the oud. Wissam’s international career began with the album Tamaas. He made the three ouds of the Jouban trio himself, personalising each one. His musical vision carries the tradition of Arab music with the modernity of the oud.
Adnand Joubran (1985, Nazareth) is the youngest of the brothers. Initially wanting to be a percussionist he fell for the oud and helped form the trio as it stands today. As well as his career Adnand will be presenting a project which combines music and circus entitled Eko du oud.
