The first of three events we're featuring this week from the
Présences électronique 2009 festival, all of which take place in the studios and halls of the 104.
Today's proceedings kick off with
Philip Jeck in concert at 2pm in Atelier 4. Jeck works with old records and phonographic equipment, blending and processing the output into droning, atmospheric soundscapes where the scratches and pops on the vinyl form as important a part of the whole as the mysterious musical content.
After a concert in darkness at 6pm (also in Atelier 4), dedicated to the composer
Luc Ferrari, we reach the main event at 8pm in Salle 400. Composer and improvisor
Alain Savouret begins proceedings, followed by a collaboration between avant garde turntablist/guitarist
Franck Vigroux and experimental Japanese Cyberpunk writer
Kenji Siratori. Next up, post-spectral IRCAM inmate
Benjamin de la Fuente presents an example of the forceful, energetic and highly structured forms that won him the Dugardin Prize in 2002, followed by sound installation specialist
Mathias Delplanque, whose collaborations with
Rob Mazurek,
Alice Lewis and
Daniel Givens have earned him considerable props.
Rounding things off is turntablist, composer, originator and general cultural force
DJ Olive, aka Gregor Asch. Founder of the Multipolyomni and WE collectives, Olive has been instrumental in the development of the turntable/sound art relationship.
