Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez and Zechs Marquise

A solo performance by The Mars Volta writer, singer, guitarist and producer Omar Alfredo Rodríguez-López. Puerto Rican Rodríguez-López grew up in Texas, only leaving El Paso in the early nineties to hitch around the USA. During this time, he began what would become a defining influence on his career - an addiction to heroine and crack which would eventually break up his first serious musical project At The Drive In. From those ashes, Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala arose to form The Mars Volta, and collaborations with Damo Suzuki, Lydia Lunch and John Frusciante have solidified Rodríguez-López's reputation.

Zechs Marquise, one of Rodríguez-López's most recent projects (he plays bass) apply improv thinking to rock aesthetics.
