The second event in the Presences électronique festival presents a few of the biggest names in sound art.
After a talk with
David Toop and Alexis Mombelet and Dominic Besson's AV installation "Paroles trouvées" (11.30am and 2pm respectively, both in Salle 200), we get down to business with a performance by KERNEL,
KT Toeplitz's interpretational computer system at 4pm in Atelier 4. At 6pm we have a
Denis Dufour concert in the same studio, a composer who has been at the heart of musical research for the last thirty years.
The main event this evening sees seven heavyweights of sound art on the same bill. Sound sculptures from
GRM graduate
Christine Groult; Ground Zero member and self proclaimed "non-musician"
Sachiko M; electroacoustic improv courtesy of
Cor Fuhler; sound science from multiphonic sax player and electroacoustic wizard
Thomas Ankersmit; a not-to-be-missed team up between virtuoso turntablist and sound artist
ErikM and
Einstürzende Neubauten percussionist FM Einheit... all worth investing some time in.
Finally, the icing on tonight's cake will be that monolith of the sonic art/noise world, Finnish sound experimentalist
Mika Vainio. Best known for his work with
Ilpo Väisänen as underground leftfield techno force
Pan Sonic, Vainio's solo work has gone on to form some of the most extreme and exciting sonic bodies out there.
