CONCERT

The Ex

Written 30 January

Tuesday 24 March, 20:30
Café de la Danse, 75011 [map]
The Ex, Ililta Band

Formed in 1979, Dutch avant garde troupe The Ex have woven themselves a complex musical mesh over the years, embracing free jazz, noise, improv, punk, rock and ethnic elements. The result is a dynamic, furious mix of discordant, rhythmic guitars, caustic vocals and almost tribal drummming. The start of this year, which marks the bands 30th anniversary, saw the departure of long-time vocalist G.W. Sok, and subsequent replacement by Zea frontman Arnold de Boer.

Joining them on stage tonight will be Ethiopian three piece group The Ililta Band. Fronted by singer and one-string fiddle (masinqo) player Chalachew Ashenafi, this is traditional music played by some of it's most steeped exponents.
