Luc Ferrari

Luc Ferrari, as a young composer amongst the new avant garde (during the 1950s), and with an interest for concrete music, came into its own after his meeting with Edgar Varese and Pierre Schaeffer. He co-founded the Groupe de Recherches Musicales (G.R.M) and went on to produce compositions that highlight a sensorial approach to narration and his provocative sense of humour. The first portable tape recorders allowed him to collect sound outside of his studios for his first composition Hétérozygote, which he called “anecdotal music”. He went on to produce an interesting and important body of work.

“I created works which move away from pure musical preoccupations and of which call for a meeting between diverse branches of the same tree. The problem is to try to express, through different mediums, passing ideas, sensations, and intuitions; to observe daily life in all its realities, whether these be social, psychological or emotional, then being able to express all this through text, instrumental writing, electro acoustic compositions, reports, films or shows, etc”. Luc Ferrari.
