CONCERT

Murcof

Written 30 January

Tuesday 31 March, 20:00
Cité de la Musique, 75019 [map]
Murcof, Francesco Tristano

Murcof is the solo guise of Mexican born composer Fernando Corona, who, since 2001, has been pushing his unique brand of rich digital electronica to an audience steadily increasing in size and dedication. His sparse, minimal soundscapes blend incredibly detailed and complex sound design with emotive harmonic and melodic writing, using silence and orchestral elements alongside glitchy beats and bass to construct evocative, precise musical forms.

There's a definite cinematic aspect to the sound, too - the drama inherent in his compositional style has often led Murcof to work in AV, most notably on his live soundtracking of Fritz Lang's Metropolis.

Also on the bill this evening is pianist, composer and Carl Craig collaborator Francesco Tristano, whose blend of jazz, modern classical and electronica has gained wide respect in both academic and club circles, including support from Derrick May and Jeff Mills.
