Sarah Moon's book "1-2-3-4-5" recently won the
Prix Nadar. Once a model before moving to the other side of the camera lens, here she provides us with a fascinating look at her career through the collection of the same name. The book includes photography from her early years, Years 1990-2000, her fashion photography, her fairytale inspired work as well as work for the film
Mississippi One (1990) and her DVD. The exhibition is in collaboration with the book collection and highlights a fascinating career.
She still works for fashion companies like
Rykiel,
Cacharel,
Miyake,
Lacroix but her growing interest in the fairytale such as "L'effraie" (the screech owl)-an animal of beauty and terror for Moon- has taken her into other territory and has produced some hauntingly beautiful imagery. Her surrealist inspired imagery is very much used in work inspired by her fascination with
Anderson and
Perrault and fairytales such as little Red riding hood. Worth seeing!
