Sprechcantando

Written 30 January

Spoken or sung, the ambiguity of the "Sprechgesang", an expressionist vocal technique that falls between singing and speaking, provides an endless number of possible interpretations.

For Pierrot lunaire by Arnold Schoenberg, actress Isabelle Menke proposes the cabaret version, bringing the poems vividly to life. Spoken or sung, Andrea Vigani's new work rushes toward the fragmentation of sound and meaning. Using a text by Saint Augustine on the idea of truth as a basis for the work, the Italian composer questions our perception of reality. The musical meaning is divided (Tagli) between voice and bassoon, only to be recomposed later through spatialization.
