Our favourite floating funboat plays host to a legend of envelope-pushing techno,
Matthew Dear. Texas-born Dear moved to Michigan as a teenager, where he was inspired by the sound of Detroit Techno. He met Sam Valenti IV at a party while attending the University of Michigan, after which the two created
Ghostly International. Dear’s first single was 1999’s "
Hands Up For Detroit" (co-produced by ghettotech pioneer Disco D). In 2007, Matthew Dear released his sophomore full length, "
Asa Breed", to considerable critical acclaim. All grinding bass, clipped percussion and super-crisp programming, "Asa Breed" paved the way for Dear's breakthrough, and he followed the release with a tour opening up for
Hot Chip.
Joining the fray this evening will be eccentric
Kompakt crew member
DJ Koze.
