Buena Vista Social Club

The phenomenon that is the Buena Vista Social Club continues. From it's roots as a Havana members club, via the Juan de Marcos González/Ry Cooder recordings and Wim Wenders film to the institution that it forms today, the BVSC brand and movement has sparked a huge interest in Cuban music and culture over the last decade, without which the careers of such luminaries as Compay Segundo, Rubén González and Ibrahim Ferrer might have been criminally overlooked. Unfortunately the new wave of popularity was not to be long enjoyed by many of the original musicians - Segundo, González and Ferrer all passed away over the last six years. Tonight's concert features the Orquesta BVSC, with trumpet player Guajiro Mirabal, guitarist Manuel Galban and Aguage Ramos on trombone, amongst others.
