TALKART

Laurent Van der Stockt

Written 30 January

Wednesday 29 April, 18:00
Maison Européenne de la Photographie, 75004 [map]

Member of the Gamma photographic agency, Laurent Van der Stockt covers the majority of large conflicts for the international press. A photographer, awkwardly battling with his sense of humanity, Laurent Van der Stockt never qualifies as a “war photographer.”
The exhibition is made up of dozens of photographs, chosen from thousands, retracing three recent conflicts. Bosnia, Chechnya, and Iraq of which many victims were civilians. The exhibition reveals the capabilities of atrocities as well as heroic deeds by people at war and implicitly retraces the development of the artist and his work. Laurent Van der Stockt will be present for this evening’s talk relating to his exhibition.
