Pharoah Sanders Quartet

Nicknamed “Pharoah” by Sun Ra, Pharoah Sanders came to prominence playing with John Coltrane’s band in 1965, as Coltrane began experimenting with the music which would soon become known as avant-garde jazz. Over the years since then he has played with Alice Coltrane (on “Journey In Satchidananda”), Bill Laswell, Jah Wobble and numerous other high profile musicians. Sanders is known for his overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques on the saxophone, as well as his use of “sheets of sound.”
