Starting with "The Early Learnings Of" in 2007, and progressing through the self-titled last album for
Domino,
Eugene McGuinness' pop plays on established parameters with playful abandon. Highly derivative in style but always on the edge of something entirely different, McGuinness' love-for-life ditties are the perfect soundtrack to a slightly unhinged but cheerful Wednesday evening.
With reference points in Talking Heads to Californian punk, Adam Nobel -produced
Baddies are a true best-kept-secret of Southern England. Not for long though, we reckon.
Southampton four piece
Thomas Tantrum have been getting some serious props recently from the likes of Lily Allen, Glasvegas, and The Futureheads, with whom they recently toured. Think
Black Kids,
Yeah Yeah Yeahs, maybe even
Sonic Youth.
