Monique Renault is an independent animation film maker. Her technique is most notably coloured pencil applied directly to paper. She started out making humorous films with social themes which were considered too political, too anti military, anti clerical and feministic for her home country. She has received support and finance in the Netherlands where she went on to produce around twenty short films and several film workshops with children.
« When I was 12 I saw a film which really impressed me and helped me decide my future: “C’est l’aviron” by Norman Mclaren. Obviously, this name didn’t say anything to me but because it seemed to be done in pencil it gave me a desire to produce moving designs”.
