After Manilla, Davao is the second city of the Philippines but looks more like an enormous conglomeration of villages than a metropolis and still very much dominated by agricultural life. The country people have kept their animist cults and traditional mythology that existed way before colonisation. I brought back from Davao a series of portraits and still lives inspired by this animist spirit. I took the photos in black and white then retouched them with paint and oil to lend them something of the tropical atmosphere in which they were taken.
